Cinnamon, no sugar! Check out my recipe for Cinnamon-Swirl Greek Yogurt.
Cinnamon swirl doesn’t have to come in a 500-calorie bun or French toast breakfast. A simple drizzle of cinnamon-infused honey turns a plain bowl of yogurt into an irresistible treat, especially when you pretty up the presentation with a fancy-looking swirl. Let your kids get in on the fun by creating their own edible artwork in their cups.
All it takes are these ingredients: (serves 2)
– 1 cup plain Greek yogurt
– 1 tablespoon liquid honey
– 1⁄4 teaspoon ground cinnamon, plus more for sprinkling
– 1⁄2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Divide the yogurt between two small cups or containers. In a small bowl, whisk together the honey, cinnamon, and vanilla and pour it over the yogurt.
Draw the tip of a knife or toothpick through the honey to create a swirled pattern. Sprinkle with cinnamon and serve or pack up to enjoy later. It’s perfect popped into a lunchbox.
Skip the Sugar! Though cinnamon is commonly mixed with sugar, cinnamon on its own, has been shown to help control our sugar by lowering fasting blood glucose levels. Cinnamon can also help digestion, relieve gas, lower blood pressure, and work as an anti-inflammatory in relieving pain and stiffness of muscles and joints. Its flavor—aromatic, pungent, and warming—makes this spice equally at home in sweet and savory dishes. And as cinnamon aids absorption of nutrients, I encourage you to use it liberally, in dishes
Swap It Out!
– Use another spice, such as pumpkin pie spice, nutmeg, or cardamom.
– Add dried or fresh fruit and/or nuts.
– Whisk a quick splash of orange flower water or rose water into the yogurt before adding the flavored honey.
