Our teeth go through a lot each day. They are constantly chewing on a variety of foods and textures, and are being splashed with drinks that just seem to be out to stain them. While there are plenty of teeth whitening products out there, they don’t always seem to be the most budget friendly. Plus, many times they contain harsh chemicals that may wear down your teeth. Fortunately, there are natural ways to whiten your teeth that are budget friendly and don’t contain harsh chemicals. Soon, you will be on your way to a brighter, whiter smile.
Baking Soda
Found in some toothpastes, baking soda has natural whitening properties, which is why it goes at the top of our list. Add a little to your toothpaste and brush your teeth with it to help remove stains on your teeth. Another benefit to baking soda is that it can even prevent bacteria from growing. Doing double duty, you will begin to see changes in your smile with less stains and yellowing, and pearlier whites.
Coconut Oil
Swishing coconut oil around in your mouth, like a mouthwash, is another option that can help you obtain that bright smile. Doing so can reduce bacteria buildup in your mouth and breakdown plaque. This practice comes from an old Indian folk remedy that seems to work! Coconut oil can even reduce inflammation, helping any puffy gums. So, swish your way around to a brighter smile with a tablespoon of coconut oil. Swish around for about 10 minutes if possible and enjoy the results!
Fruits and Veggies with High Water Content
Eating fruits and vegetables with high water content is a great way to naturally whiten your teeth. When you eat foods with low water content, they tend to stick to your teeth and slowly stain or rot them. When you eat foods, like fruits and veggies, with high water content, the water will help wash away bacteria in your mouth and help prevent stains and cavities.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple Cider Vinegar has been looked to when trying to lose weight, but it also provides other health benefits including teeth whitening. Acetic acid, which is the main active ingredient in apple cider vinegar, kills bacteria. As apple cider vinegar packs a punch, use it sparingly so that you do not soften your teeth. Try using it as a mouthwash, but dilute it with water so that it is not as strong. Soon, you will begin to see a brighter smile.
Activated Charcoal
Activated charcoal may help whiten your teeth by absorbing plaque and residue that causes staining. Dip a wet toothbrush into powdered activated charcoal and brush your teeth like normal. Make sure to focus on those trouble areas where you may see darker stains. Swish around some water and spit it out. By doing this charcoal scrub two to three times a week, you will see less stains and yellowing.
Lemon and Orange Peels
Similar to apple cider vinegar, lemon and orange peels contain beneficial acids that provide the same effects by breaking down plaque and stains. While these foods are healthy, the acid in the peels can be strong for your teeth. So, after rubbing you’re the peels on your teeth to whiten them, rinse your mouth with water so that the acid does not stay in your mouth and break down your enamel.
